Mission:
Making video globally accessible through multilingual technology
The name alugha comes from Swahili: a = “one”, lugha = “language”. It reflects our motto — alugha: we speak earthish — and our mission to overcome language barriers by making video accessible to everyone, everywhere.
Alugha GmbH was founded in Mannheim, Germany, in 2014 by Bernd Korz and Gregor Greinert. The idea was born years earlier, when Bernd, after publishing over 500 tutorials on YouTube, was repeatedly asked for versions in other languages. No platform offered multilingual videos, and subtitles weren’t enough. Together with his son Niklas, then only 15, Bernd developed the first prototype of a multilingual player — laying the foundation for alugha.
Today, alugha continues to build on that family-driven innovation, enabling companies worldwide to break language barriers thanks to alugha multilingual solutions.
