A toxic relationship is one that is harmful. While some signs of a toxic relationship are more obvious—like physical abuse, repeated infidelity, and inappropriate sexual behavior—others can be harder to detect. It may involve disrespectful, dishonest, or controlling behavior.1
For example, your partner cuts you down frequently. As a result, your mental health may begin to suffer.
Whether you are single or in a relationship, leaving a potentially toxic relationship is not easy. It first takes the realization to know that you're in a toxic relationship, and then it takes accepting that the relationship is toxic. Once you have confirmed the signs of a toxic relationship, leaving takes social support, courage, and also self-validation knowing that you will find someone better.
If you're struggling to leave a dependent or toxic relationship, do you think you will have the courage to do so?
