Ask the class how they think genocides happen and what are the stages or warning signs that can lead to such an atrocity. Show the class the Sprouts video on "The 10 Stages of Genocide." Take the Rwandan genocide as an example and have students identify the different phases that helped Stanton develop his theory. Ask students what other genocides they can think of and how they fit into the 10 phases. Ask students if they think there are any warning signs of genocide happening around the world — or waiting to happen. Ask students what solutions they can think of to prevent escalation at each stage.
