Las infecciones por hepatitis B y C causan carcinoma hepatocelular (CHC) al replicarse en los hepatocitos. El resultado es la inflamación, la muerte celular y la proliferación. La prevención de la infección por hepatitis es importante para disminuir el riesgo de cáncer de hígado, que puede lograrse aumentando las normas de higiene y los programas de vacunación.
