Today on hoTodi,
0:03 → 0:07
how to make a candle holder from a piece of firewood.
0:12 → 0:16
First of all, I used the plane to smoothen the surface.
0:18 → 0:23
Do this several times until it's level.
0:23 → 0:26
I like it, no more grooves.
0:27 → 0:31
Next, I cleaned the bark side with the angle grinder.
0:31 → 0:34
I removed only a little of the bark.
0:34 → 0:40
And then I used 80 grit sandpaper to sand it.
0:41 → 0:48
Then I sanded the bottom and end faces with 120 grit sandpaper.
0:48 → 0:55
A pair of glasses should fit in, so I marked the hole location first.
0:56 → 1:01
And then I tapped the lines with a chisel.
1:01 → 1:08
I chiseled out the wood patiently and gradually.
1:09 → 1:15
As it turned out, fixing it with a **** clamp was not optimal.
1:16 → 1:20
The piece always moved a little while chiselling.
1:21 → 1:26
But I also have a proper workbench, so there are other ways.
1:27 → 1:32
Unfortunately I have only one bench hook. I need to make new ones.
1:32 → 1:38
Necessity is the mother of invention and a small hammer helps out.
1:39 → 1:44
As you can see, I'm chiseling out only small pieces.
1:46 → 1:54
Take your time. Rather a little too little than too much!
1:56 → 2:01
It took me about 10 minutes.
2:04 → 2:12
It was a little too small for the glasses, but that's not a problem with wood, I just made the hole longer.
2:14 → 2:21
I then carefully removed minor irregularities without using a mallet.
2:21 → 2:25
And this is what it looks like now!
2:26 → 2:31
Now I wanted to have it nice and smooth at the edges and at the bottom.
2:31 → 2:33
I used the Dremel for that.
2:34 → 2:38
And put on a small grinding head.
2:39 → 2:45
Then I used another attachment, a small cutting disc.
2:46 → 2:53
I wanted to lightly burn the surface to make it more dense and smooth.
2:53 → 3:00
And of course to match the style of the hole to the wood.
3:02 → 3:07
Now it was really nice and smooth, no more sharp edges.
3:07 → 3:11
Just one more time. Do it like you want it to look.
3:13 → 3:20
I thought it turned out very well for my glasses, I can leave it like that.
3:21 → 3:24
But, you know, it's Christmas time and all!
3:24 → 3:26
So you can also use it for candles.
3:28 → 3:34
Thanks for watching, leave a comment and see you next time!
